Year 1 and 2 go for a walk

To end our topic 'British Winter Animals' Year 2 decided it would be nice to share their learning with Year 1. In preparation for the afternoon Year 2 children turned the field into a nature walk with work and information from their topic set out for Year 1 to read.  Thankfully the afternoon was dry and Year 1 could get out and search for the trail that had been laid out for them.

Soup-er Fun in Year 2

Over the last half term, Year 2 have been lucky enough to have Miss Weston join us for outdoor learning. Through this, we have been able to make soup using ingredients that children kindly brought in.

Our soup contained carrots, onions, tomatoes and peppers and the children were able to practise chopping and cutting before adding the ingredients to the pot.

Year 2 - Evening Nature Walk

After a lovely trip at the start of half term to 'Stour Valley Nature Reserve', we set the children a challenge to be a guide for their parents on an evening at the river. After the rain stopping us on one occasion, on Tuesday 7th February it was time for the children to show their parents what they knew!

Making hedgehog bread

As part of the landing to our topic, British Winter Animals, we made bread to share with Year 1.  To begin the process we had to measure and then mix flour, yeast and water.  Take a look at the pictures of us mixing the ingredients in the mixing bowls!  Once it was all mixed together the mixture became a dough.

Next we had to work hard to knead the dough.

Water! Water! Water!

This term, Year 4 have been busy learning all about water, particulary the water cycle. After the learning the talking story 'How Rocket Shoes Work?' we were able to write our on explanation text of the water cycle. Not only did we write about the water cycle but we have been creating collages and have been singing about it too! To put together all that we have learned, we created a short video clip explaining the process of the water cycle.

Headteacher Awards

Several children have made a great start to the half term by earning a Headteacher Award.  Today I saw a Year 6 writer who had produced an outstanding recount of her visit to Parliament in London, it was both carefully constructed and beautifully presented.  Great writing well done.  I also saw a Year 3 pupil who had worked brilliantly on their writing and really impressed Miss Drayson with the quality of the work and the effort that had gone in to it.  Lovely to start this half term seeing some great writers!

Reception’s Active Adventurous PE with Indiana Jones!

On Friday morning rain ensured that two classes, during their PE lessons, took on an adventurous challenge. As part of their multi-skills topic reception have been exploring lots of different movements and ways to travel across apparatus. Mr Millar and Mr Burt decided to challenge students with ‘The Indiana Jones Adventure Trail’. This allowed reception classes to swing on ropes, climb obstacles, crawl through tunnels, develop balancing skills and practice their take-off and landing skills!

Art club get creative!

After 6 weeks of battling with drawing portraits, the children in Art club (Years 5 and 6) have allowed themselves to get creative with their images and begin to be more abstract. In previous weeks we have learned many techniques that help us to draw portraits accurately. We have used a gridding up method and measuring features to improve our sense of proportion. We also explored the use of shading and colour to develop our ability to draw in 3D.

Discovery World

During our "Let’s Learn" sessions in reception one of the places we can explore is Discovery World. In discovery world we have lots of different resources to explore such as Bee Bots, walky-talkies, magnets and torches. Each week we also have a different activity to investigate.  It really is an exciting learning space full of things for the children to explore and discover!
