Super Writing

It was a pleasure to present a Headteacher Award to a child in Year 4 who had amazed Mrs Tennant with his writing.  He had written an excellent newspaper report on a lightning strike in London.  It had some wonderful phrases in and was a really good read!  Great writing - keep up the super work!

The second instalment of forest school

This week, Year 5 were learning a new skill in forest school - whittling. Whittling is a simple style of wood carving and we used branches found around the school grounds and removed their bark in slivers using peelers. Much care was needed as we were using knives and safety was of course paramount but the children really enjoyed the activity. They had to focus to achieve a good finished product and it became a very quiet and focused activity, some even said it was almost like meditation. Below are some pictures of 5VT in action.

Updated: Premiership Player & Sky Sports Visit Winton Primary

Today two classes in Year 5, who were doing their PE lessons out on the field, got a real surprise when three television crews and a premiership footballer arrived to help them out! Two of the classes are currently taking part in the Premier League Primary Stars scheme and Benik Afobe, a big money signing for AFC Bournemouth Football Club, is the figurehead of the scheme down on the south coast.

Reception R Time Fun

Every Friday afternoon the children of Winton Primary have R Time, a chance to relax, unwind and celebrate the weeks achievements with a fun filled activity of their choice. After their first full week at school Friday afternoon was Reception's first ever R Time and the children were very excited. There were lots of fun options to choose from including construction, cinema, outside play, dressing up, i-pads and mask making. The children certainly had a dfficult time deciding which activity to pick as they all seemed so exciting!

Cardio Tennis at Victoria Avenue

Students from year 4 at Winton Primary have been taking part in 90 Minute Cardio Tennis sessions at Victoria Avenue Tennis Club. This is an exciting and very active sequence of tennis sessions not only to help improve individual tennis skills but also enhancing components of fitness. As part of a brand new initiative The PE specialist team at Winton Primary decided to enable students to have their curriculum tennis lessons out in the community.

Reception Computing, Music & PE

The children in reception have only been at school for a very short time and today was their first morning with the specialist teachers. Each class had an hour of PE and then an hour of either music or computing.

Year 5 Forest School Fun

This half term the Year 5 children are lucky to be working closely with Mrs Weston around our grounds, both keeping it maintained and also learning about its hidden secrets. This is a big responsibility but the children are rising to the occasion and really enjoying it as well!

Headteacher Award

It was brilliant to see a Year 6 pupil today for some fantastic writing.  She had worked to improve a basic text and the polished bit of writing she produced was truly excellent.  It was really great bit of writing and thoroughly deserved the first Headteacher Award of this academic year - well done!

Power of 100 in Year 6

In this topic the children of Year 6 celebrated the 100th birthday of Roald Dahl by innovating their own character from ‘James and the Giant Peach’. To begin the topic we invited all children, with their families, to our school for a showing of the film in our cinema. Popcorn was sold with all proceeds funding the cooking element later in the topic.

Year 5 & 6 R-Time Origami

Every Friday Year 5 and 6 (and everyone else!) celebrate their hard work and achievements from the week by taking part in a fun activity of their choice. This week 20 crafters joined me for a half hour origami book corner challenge! After some initial brainstorming and a few instructions they were off. I'm sure you'll be as impressed with what they created as I was!

Year 1 and 2 Celebration of Learning

Year 1 and 2 have been learning about Roald Dahl and have learnt the story Esio Trot. The children have really enjoyed re telling stories and finding out exciting facts about Roald Dahl.

Roald Dahl would have been 100 on Tuesday 13th September and the children wanted to celebrate it.  So they undertook lots of different activities to celebrate the life and work of Roald Dahl as well as to commemorate his centenary birthday.
